Legends Night - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 7

Charlie "The Edge" Venegas followed up his victory in the National Championship Qualifier with another perfect night on Legends Night at Industry Racing.

Venegas and Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell both entered the Scratch Main Event undefeated. Venegas won the draw for first choice of starting position and picked gate one. McConnell, selected gate four and hoped to make the outside work just as he had all night. "Battling" Buck Blair chose gate three which left Aaron Fox with gate two.

Venegas was off the starting line first while the other three pushed up wide and gave up a lot of ground to the leader. The three-way battle for the runner-up position was fierce but it also allowed Venegas to stretch his lead. Fox eventually emerged with second but was out of touch with the leader. Venegas was first to the checkered flag, Fox finished second, Blair settled for third, and McConnell was fourth.

Former National Champion "Flyin" Mike Faria kicked off the evening with a win over Tim Gomez. Blair beat Fox in the second heat. McConnell defeated Steve Russell in event three. Max Ruml beat Brad Sauer in event four. Venegas ended round one by beating Tyson Talkington.

Fox beat Gomez start round two. Faria beat Russell for his second straight win. McConnell held off Max Ruml for his second win in a row. Blair made it two straight victories with a win over Green. Venegas finished the second round by beating "Nasty" Nate Perkins.

Faria started the final round of heats by beating Talkington to remain undefeated. McConnell beat Gomez to maintain his own perfect score. Max Ruml defeated Russell for his second win. Fox beat Green for his second straight win. Venegas finished the heats with a win over Blair to match Faria and McConnell.

Blair trapped from the outside in the first semi but McConnell and his 22" rear tire used the outside to take the lead and the win. Blair maintained second to join McConnell. Venegas won the second semi with Fox following him into the main.

Max Ruml trapped from gate four and ran away with the Scratch Consolation. Faria finished second, Gomez was third, and Russell finished fourth.

Braden Sauer trapped from gate four and looked to be a sure winner in the Second Division Main Event but he slid off on lap two. Bruce Marteney was the benefactor and he led the rest of the way for the win. Carl Gazafy finished second, Braden Sauer was third, and Kevin "Rip" Fife finished fourth.

Rick Howard led the Third Division Main Event for a lap before Wade Whitcomb slipped past him for the lead on the back straight. Whitcomb stayed at the front for a lap until Dave Troutt used the outside line to pass the leader. Troutt never looked back from there and was victorious. Wade Whitcomb held on to second, Steve "Beach Ball" Brown was third, Howard finished fourth, and Tony DeAlmeida was fifth.

Dillon Ruml made the best start and led the Junior 250 Main Event from start to finish. Junior National Champion Broc Nicol was second, Dalton Leedy finished third, Hayley Perrault was fourth, and Michael Wells finished fifth.

Sebastian Palmese stalked Gino Scopellite for several laps of the Mini 150 First Division Main Event and his pressure paid off when he passed him the last time on the back straight. Palmese held on for the last half lap to collect the victory. Maverick Molloy finished second and Dylan Smith was third.

Travis Hamilton held the lead in the Mini 150 Second Division Main Event before Tristan Britt took over on the second lap. Britt was never seriously threatened and led the rest of the way for the victory. Slater Lightcap finished second, Hamilton ended up third, Jake Isaac finished fourth, Sam Hagon was fifth, Alex Martin finished sixth, and Sterling Martin was seventh.

Dustin Staggs was victorious in the Pee Wee Main Event. Luke Whitcomb was second, Conner Salazar finished third, Andrew Russell was fourth, Jason Palmese finished fifth, and Jake Trout was sixth.

Many of the legends from decades past were in attendance and signed autographs for the fans. Topping the list was two-time World Champion Bruce Penhall. Joining him were Rick Miller, "Wild" Bill Cody, Sonny Nutter, Mark Cherry, and Jim "The Animal" Fishback among the many others.
