Mazda Motorsports Night - City of Industry, CA, USA - June 19 Former World Champion Billy "The Bullet" Hamill continued his romp through the Southern California speedway circuit with another undefeated evening on Mazda Motorsports Night at Industry Racing. Hamill and Aaron Fox both entered the main event undefeated and had to draw for the right to have first choice of starting position. Hamill won the draw and Fox immediately walked to gate four assuming Hamill would choose an inside gate. To the surprise of most in attendance, including Fox, Hamill decided on gate four. Fox then deliberated over gates one and two before settling on gate two. Max Ruml was delighted to pick gate one with third choice and that left Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell with gate three. Hamill's atypical choice of starting position paid off when he was off the starting line first but he had to take the wide line through turns one and two because Fox got to the precious inside line first. The defending National Champion found enough grip on the outside to steam ahead of Fox and he dropped down in front of him as they entered turn three with Max Ruml and McConnell not far behind. Hamill opened up a little breathing room on the second lap and left the others to fight over the minor places. Hamill was first to the checkered flag, Fox was second, Max Ruml finished third, and McConnell was fourth. Hamill's victory not only kept his unbeaten record in 2013 at Industry Racing alive, but he has won all 46 of his scratch races on the Southern California circuit this season. An unbelievable accomplishment for an amazing champion. His competitors will be anxious to be the first to hand him a defeat this season. Michael Raines kicked off the heats with a win over Tim Gomez. Hamill defeated former Junior National Champion Jason Ramirez in event two. Fox beat McConnell in the third heat. Max Ruml stalked Tyson Talkington for three laps before slipping past him on the final lap for the win. Round two began with Ramirez storming up the inside of Raines on the second lap to take the lead and the win. Hamill blazed to his second win ahead of Gomez. Max Ruml held off "Battling" Buck Blair for his second straight win. Fox and McConnell engaged in an epic wheel-two-wheel four-lap battle that brought the crowd to its feet with Fox getting a narrow win. Max Ruml opened the final round of heats with a win over Talkington to remain perfect. John Marquez defeated Gomez to win event 24. Fox beat Blair to make three win in three heats. Hamill ended the heats by beating McConnell to match the perfect scores of Max Ruml and Fox. Blair defeated Talkington and Marquez in a runoff to fill the final spot in the semis. Fox trapped from gate four in the first semi and led Max Ruml all the way into the main event. Hamill was leading the second semi with Blair behind him and in position to go from runoff to the main event for the second straight week but the Colorado native spun around in turn two on the third lap and brought out the red flag. The race was awarded to Hamill and the second transfer was awarded to McConnell. Raines led the Consolation all the way with Ramirez getting second and Gomez finishing third. Eloy Medellin made a great start in the Second Division Main Event and kept everyone at bay to collect his first victory of the season. Carl Gazafy finished second, Bruce Marteney was third, and Northern California's Paul Sanburn finished fourth. Dave Troutt got out in front of the Third Division Main Event and was never seriously threatened en route to victory. Steve "Beach Ball" Brown was second, Chris Wiggins finished third, Rick Howard was fourth, Wade Whitcomb finished fifth, Tony DeAlmeida was sixth, and Andy Schwarm finished seventh. Dillon Ruml led all four laps and scored a convincing victory in the Junior 250 Main Event. Junior National Champion Broc Nicol finished second, Hayley Perrault was third, and Dalton Leedy finished fourth. The Mini 150 First Division Main Event provided great entertainment. Courtney Crone led before Sebastian "Big Daddy" Palmese took over at the end of the first lap. Crone used a great cutback move through turns three and four to regain the lead at the close of lap two. Palmese struck back quickly, though, and the two riders touched in turn two and went wide. Both riders recovered before Maverick Molloy could capitalize and Palmese assumed the lead on the back straight. Crone tried to take the lead back on the final lap but was unable to do so. Palmese got to the finish line first, Crone finished second, and Molloy was third. Jake Isaac led the Mini 150 Second Division Main Event for a lap but was under fire from Gino Scopellite. The pressure ended on lap two when Scopellite overslid in turn two and ended up on the infield. It was smooth sailing from there for Isaac who led to the finish. Slater Lightcap was second, Tristan Britt finished third, and Scopellite was credited with fourth. Walker Calvo was the leader of the Pee Wee Main Event through two laps but "Lightning" Luke Whitcomb and Jonas LeoGrande were carving through the field after starting in the back. LeoGrande got to Walker Calvo on the back straight but his time at the front was short-lived as Whitcomb took the lead as they entered turn one the next time. LeoGrande didn't give up without a fight but his bid ended in the final corner when he fell. Whitcomb was first to the checkered flag, Walker Calvo was second, Andrew Russell finished third, Nick Dunn was fourth, and LeoGrande was credited with fifth. Dual Anderson and Ethan Smith emerged from a hard-fought turn one to lead the Sidecar Main Event on the back straight. Bryan Motis and Josh Bennett attacked low while National Champions Joe Jones and Johnny Glover attacked high. Both teams tried furiously to get by the leader all four laps but neither could by. Anderson and Smith were victorious, Motis and Bennett were second, Joe Jones and Glover finished third, and Chris Jones and Dave German were fourth. The next event at Industry Racing will be a Salute to our Military. The program will have all divisions of speedway as well as the sidecars.
