Harley Night - San Bernardino, CA, USA - July 12
Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz took advantage of a second chance and won the main event on Quaid Harley Night at Pirate Speedway.
"Battling" Buck Blair had first gate choice for the main event and surprised many by choosing gate five. Aaron Fox picked gate one. Schwartz was very happy to select gate two with the third choice. "Fast" Eddie Castro picked gate three which left Steve Russell with gate four.
Fox led the first start into turn one but Blair spun around on the outside which forced Russell to lay his bike down and the red flag came out. The referee ordered a complete restart. Schwartz got the jump in the second attempt and clamped down on Fox to hold the lead on the back straight and through lap one. Fox shifted his attack to the outside but Schwartz calmly drifted into his line on the back straight and slowed his momentum. Fox made a bold attempt on the inside as they entered turn three the third time but ran in too fast and parked. The mistake gave Schwartz enough breathing room to lead the final lap unchallenged. Fox held on to second, Castro was third, Blair finished fourth, and Russell was fifth.
Fox began round two with a win over Russell. Blair defeated Facchini in the next heat. Schwartz finished the second round by holding off Talkington.
Russell started the final round of heats by beating Green for his second win. Schwartz made it two wins in a row with a win over Castro. Blair brought the heats to a close with a victory over Fox.
The first semi took three attempts but it didn't deter Blair from getting his third straight win with Schwartz getting second to join him in the main. Fox and Castro finished one-two in the second semi and transferred to the main.
Russell held off a very persistent Gomez to win the Last Chance and book his place in the main. Facchini finished third and Green was fourth.
Mitch Pierson won his heat, his semi, and completed his evening by winning an abbreviated Support Main Event. Dave Troutt finished second, Ben Stevens was third, Wade Whitcomb finished fourth, Chris Jones was fifth, and Mike Reed was credited with sixth after being deemed the cause of the red flag that ended the race at the start of the final lap.
Michael Wells led the Junior 250 Main Event before Dryden Gayle made a great outside pass to take the lead at the end of the first lap. Gayle led the next two laps but Junior National Champion Broc Nicol had carved through the field and now found himself on the heels of the leader. Gayle led into turn one the fourth time but Nicol used a shrewd cutback move to take the lead on the back straight. Gayle's race ended in turn four when he fell. Nicol led the rest of the way for an impressive victory. Hayley Perrault was second, Dillon Ruml finished third, Wells was fourth, and Gayle was credited with fifth.
Dryden LeoGrande was leading the first lap of the Mini 150 Main Event before falling in turn four. Sara Cords assumed the lead but was under fire. Courtney Crone stormed up the inside of Cords on the back straight but the battle didn't end there. She had to contend with Sebastian Palmese who was not going to settle for second. Crone withstood every challenge that Sebastian Palmese could muster and held on for the win.
Tanner Richey led every lap of the Pee Wee Main Event and scored the victory. Jonas LeoGrande finished second, Luke Whitcomb was third, Dakota Shockley finished fourth, Jason Palmese Jr. was fifth, Nick Dunn finished sixth, and Jake Troutt was seventh.
