Week 4
September 5, 1998 - Livermore
By: Gary Roberts

A larger crowd at Livermore saw some good racing on a somewhat "not as good as normal" track. The track looked over watered at the beginning of the evening, and in the first half dozen races, a number of riders fell down. Later it became bumpy.

Since Billy Janniro's outstanding race a couple of months ago with Bart Bast and Mike Faria and others on another less then perfect track at Cal Expo, his talents can be used as a guideline. Even he had troubles with this track! After falling down in the early races he seemed more comfortable. In one race, he found a bump in turn two which launched his BACK wheel 3 feet in the air.

A rather unhappy aspect of this event was the shortage of riders. This resulted in Division 1 and 2 getting combined.

Ryan Fisher rode in the Division 1 and 2 program on his 250, up against the full sized riders on full sized bikes. He did well, and looked smooth, even on a difficult track. Ryan will have to wait until the year 2000 before he can enter this level of competition on a regular basis.

I got out of being flagman this week and was able to take a few photographs instead. My place was taken by Auburn Division 2 Track Champion, Dave Booth. Long suffering Dave got bruised up in his conquest for the track championship the night before so was unable to ride.

So the crowd was up, this is good news. But if this track is to take off, as we all hope it will, and become The San Francisco Bay Speedway track, it needs more riders.
