Luke Becker is just on fire at the Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway. Friday night in Auburn at the Gold Country Fairgrounds Becker got on his bike six times and came away a winner each time. In both the handicap and scratch programs Becker was undefeated in his heat races, semi-final races and capped it with wins in both main events.

Anyone who has followed this young man’s accent to the top knows that this did not happen overnight. Becker, just 18 years old, has had his sights sets on this for years, he has worked hard and the dedication he and his crew have put into his racing career is now paying off big. Against the likes of veteran riders like national champion Billy Janniro, Bryan Yarrow, Tommy Hedden, Becker pulled off a perfect night.

In the handicap main event it was another Becker-Janniro duel only this time the “Lil’ Missile” led from the first turn and was able to keep a handle on Janniro who was busy in a battle behind him with Yarrow. Becker who rides off the 40 yard until next week won, Yarrow squeezed ahead of Janniro for second and Janniro had to settle for third.

In the scratch main event Becker drew lane four, usually not the winner lane, but he gated good and took a high outside line. Working against Yarrow and Janniro, Becker got inside and led for the rest of the race. Yarrow was second, Russell Green was third and Janniro fourth. “Consistency has been my main focus this year, it was good night, we have been trying some new things out that have been working,” Becker said.

Becker’s fantastic night follows two consecutive weeks of second place finishes in the handicap and scratch main events, and a first place scratch main event win on opening night. Keep an eye on this young man who has his sights set high, he seems to know how to get things done.

Second Division was won by Davey Shaw, who has just moved back to the area from Southern California and is already a force to deal with in DII. Shaw was also perfect in his program with wins in his heat race and main event. William McCloskey was second and Lawrence McNutt was third. Third division was won by Georgetown’s Blake Borello. Moving up from the youth division Borello is racing his first season in the adult divisions. Ray Holt Jr. Jr. took second place for the second week in a row, and Casey Cornilsen was third.

In the new youth division racing format which seems to be working out good, Auburn’s Kyle Cunningham finished third in his first heat race, first in his second heat race and took home the youth speedway main event first place trophy. Anthony Dion was second and Cameron Krezman was third. Landon Norton won the Consolation Main event, Landon Collins was second and Aidan McNutt was third.

In the second round of the Challenge Elimination Series, Auburn’s Tommy Hedden grabbed the second spot and will join Luke Becker and three other riders in the championship round on August 25. The series pits five riders on the start line for a series one lap scratch races. The last place finisher in each race is dropped out, and it continues until the final two rider’s run-off in a two lap final race. Hedden faced Bryan Yarrow, Daniel Faria, Russell Green and Billy Janniro. The final-two lapper was between Hedden and Janniro. Hedden closely followed Janniro for the first lap and squeaked off a come from behind victory at the finish line just beating Janniro.

Luke Becker scores big with wins in the handicap and scratch main events.
