May 28, 2008 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

Charlie “The Edge” Venegas continued his dominance of Industry Speedway by winning the main event for the four consecutive week.

Venegas led the Scratch Main from his inside starting position, but the red flag came out when contact in turn one sent Ricky Wells to the ground and Jimmy Fishback found too much traction in turn two and went down. Venegas was in front again on the restart and Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell made a savvy cutback move in turn one to grab second. Venegas never allowed McConnell to get close enough to challenge his lead and romped to another victory. McConnell settled for second, and Wells went under Buck Blair in the final corner to steal third.

The heats opened with Fishback defeating Travis Henderson for his first win. Blair handed Venegas his only defeat of the evening in the next heat. McConnell cruised to his first victory ahead of Russell Green. Wells handily won the final heat of round one.

Round two of the earned-handicap format began with Neil Facchini beating Jason Ramirez. Bobby Schwartz scored an easy win in event 19. Venegas used the outside to take the lead and his first win of the night ahead of Tim Gomez. Blair came from the back to win the last race of the second round.

McConnell began the final round with his second victory. Wells ran away with his second win in event 26. Fishback beat John Marquez to earn his second win of the night. Venegas beat Facchini in the final heat.

The first semi began with Venegas missing turn one and going extremely deep while the field went by. Undeterred, Venegas an electrifying outside sweep around everyone and thrilled the crowd by taking the lead. He was first to the checkered followed by McConnell. Blair used the cushion to take the lead on lap one of the second semi and went on to victory. Wells made a last-ditch effort for second, but Fishback held on to the transfer spot. Wells won the Last Chance to book his place in the main.

Facchini and Henderson were the first two riders eliminated in the Last of the Mohicans Last Man Out Challenge, leaving Gomez and Schwartz. Schwartz got the lead in the final challenge, but Gomez tried to drive up the inside on the exit of turn two. Gomez hit Schwartz when he was going by and the former National Champion hit the dirt hard. Schwartz was up after a couple minutes, but was unable to restart and Gomez was awarded the victory.

Scott York had a victory in the Second Division Main in the bag, but suffered a mechanical problem on the final lap. J.C. Masters was the benefactor and took the win.

The Third Division Main Event had the added incentive of $50 to the winner courtesy of Tom Foster. Matt Davis led all four laps to collect the trophy and the extra money for the win. Tim McGrath was second, Bruce Marteney finished third, and Chris Thomas was fourth.

Gino Manzares got the best start and led all the way to the checkered flag for his first Youth Main Event victory of the season. Brad Pappalardo finished second and Samuel Ramirez was third.

Cameron Delby celebrated his seventh birthday in style by winning the Pee Wee Main Event. James Wagner finished second, Garbrielle Manzares was third, and Brandon Denton finished fourth.

Defending National Champions Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen were dominant in sidecar action by winning both heats and the Sidecar Main Event. Dave Alexander and Matt Davis were second, Gerard Jackson and Dave German finished third, and Brian Motis and Loren Thurston were fourth.
