2001 Mike Faria

It was a night of experience and youth as Mike Faria and Bryan Yarrow took home main event victories in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Costa Mesa Saturday night.

In the Scratch Main, Faria and Josh Larsen started next to each other and entered turn one together. Faria planted his machine on the inside line while Larsen rode the outside in turn two. Faria had the preferred line as he found traction while Larsen lost ground on the back straight. Faria held the lead after one lap, but it was Scott Brant chasing him. Faria pulled away from the field to take the win, Brant finished second, Randy DiFrancesco was third, Larsen was fourth, and Chris Manchester finished fifth.

"Cowboy" Bobby Krips began the Handicap Main from the 10 yard line and held the lead for three laps before Yarrow began putting pressure on him. Yarrow went under Krips on the back straight on lap four and was followed by a train of riders. "Fast" Eddie Castro was running second to Yarrow, but couldn't gain any ground and had to deal with Larsen behind him. Yarrow put together a very impressive ride as he ran away with the victory, Castro held off Larsen for second, Andy Northrup was fourth, and Manchester was fifth.

Richard Jones exploded into the lead at the start of the Support Main Event and quickly opened up a big lead. Jones was cruising after two laps when he went into turn three a little too fast and parked, thus stalling his machine. David Lynch was the benefactor and assumed the lead and went to the victory. Rod Lenz finished second, Hector Quevedo was third, Robert Fiesler was fourth, and Jones was credited with fifth.

Carl Gazafy took the lead at the start of the Support B Main Event and held it for the first two laps. Rohn Zellner took over the lead entering turn one on the third lap when he passed Gazafy on the inside. Zellner never looked back from there and was first to the checkered flag. Michael Novratil finished second, Mark Baldwin was third, Gazafy was fourth, Malcolm Roe finished fifth, and Rusty Hall was sixth.
