Sensational Rider Line up for AMA National Series Round 2 at Victorville

In just 24 days the biggest Speedway Motorcycle race in the High Desert in a decade blasts off as Round 2 of the AMA National Speedway Series hits Wheel 2 Wheel Raceway at the Victorville Fairgrounds in California.

The line up is headed by the current AMA National Champion and former World Champion Billy 'The Bullet" Hamill, out of San Marcos California. Hamill currently trails three time AMA Champion Billy Janniro out of Rancho Cordova, CA, by 3 points after a sensational Round 1 in Ventura, CA on the 29th of June where Janniro went unbeaten, a feat he will hope to repeat here. The former National Champions entered in for the race abound, with Charlie Venegas and Mike Faria keen to make up ground lost in the series opener. Next is former Grand Prix rider Josh Larsen, won last two times out at Victorville and is currently 6th in the standings on 11 points. The 'older guard' is backed up nicely with former Track Champions and local fan favorites Buck Blair and 'Fast' Eddie Castro.

The young chargers who are attempting to spoil the established superstars are led by newly crowned National Long Track Champion and USA World Cup star Gino Manzares, who is currently within striking distance of the big two. 16 year old rookie sensation Max Ruml, who just won the Under 21 National Championship, comes in 8th place after an incredible opening round in Ventura. Aaron Fox, who came agonizingly close to winning the 2013 California State Championship in his break out season is a very respectable fourth. Tyson Talkington, who impressed to qualify at Ventura, continues his steady rise and aims to climb the standings at Victorville. The young guns are rounded out with two former National Champions - Bryce Starks, a two time Under 21 Champion, and former Youth Champion Jason Ramirez.

The seeded rider line up is rounded out with two vastly experienced Northern California - former British League rider Bryan Yarrow and two time Team USA World Cup rider Tommy Hedden.

There will be an additional two spots on the program for riders who will come through 'sudden death' qualifiers before the main show. The future of the sport will be very well represented with two classes of Youth Speedway who will be racing for the 'Nick Varner' Memorial Trophy, in honor of a young speedway rider who sadly succumbed to injuries sustained in a moto cross crash two years ago.

The 37 race program is scheduled to start at 2pm on the 22nd and the Main show will uniquely replicate the exact same format used in the 'Speedway Grand Prix Series' which determines the World Champion of the sport. Ahead of the races there will be a 'Speedway Festival' at the track commencing at noon where Family Fun is the name of the game. Rider autograph sessions, food and drink, face painting, a kids bounce house, Free Massages as well as other vendors will be present.

The day before the event a special pre race lunch and promotional event will be held at Victorville Harley Davidson where fans are welcome to attend.

Tickets are just $20 for Adults, $10 for Kids 5-15 and Seniors with Under 5 FREE. Discounted $15 adult tickets can be obtained ahead of the event from Victorville Harley Davidson or email enquiries are invited at dreamteamspeedway@sbcglobal.net

The event is promoted by Steve Evans and local businessman / personality 'Crazy' Chris Ackerman. Both are thrilled with the response from the riders, fans, local media and businesses for the race, the biggest at the track in almost ten years. The presenting sponsor of the race is Victorville Harley Davidson and thanks are also given to Victorville Daily Press, Advance Performance Muffler, Battery Mart, Fast Fridays Speedway, Signify Designs, Massage by Carol Gordon, Heritage Victor Valley Medical Group, Kool Jumpers, CME Promotions, State Farm, Town and Country Tire and Jack In the Box for Supporting the event and Festival. Sponsor spaces and vendor spots are still available.

The AMA National Speedway Series concludes five days after the Victorville round with the Grand Final / Round 3 at its traditional home of Fast Fridays Speedway in Auburn on Friday 27th September at 8pm in the Gold Country Fairgrounds.

Ventura!

I just wanted to make a post to thank everyone who came out to Ventura on Saturday for the first race in 13 years.

There is no doubt that we were under pressure to deliver in many areas and whilst you can't expect perfection first time, judging by the feedback received afterwards we checked out on all of the boxes. The track held up well and produced some fabulous racing. We never had to water all night. Next year we won't need a 2 hour practice session so you can expect less groove and more dirt!

I wanted to thank every single fan who came out - it was the best crowd for ANY event at Ventura in years and it was great to reintroduce the sport to many who hadn't seen it in a decade or two. It was equally good to see so many familiar faces out there and I thank the Speedway hard-core for supporting in their droves.

I also wanted to acknowledge the Ventura track staff and our own team of Danny Hull, Tom Fox, Doug Hands, Dave Delbridge, Jessi Dubois, Jackie Stewart, Kevin Fife, Paul Flanders and Ken Leedy - this was by far the most professional and coordinated race crew I have ever worked with. Danny needs huge credit - some were critical of the choice to make him referee but he answered those critics with an absolute stellar job in the box. Thanks to Mark Williams, Mike Phipps and JT for the excellent video and pix! Thanks to all heat sponsors!

Billy Hamill is thanked for his advise, friendship and consultation in ensuring the track and safety met standards. Jim Naylor and Noel Dawson at Ventura Raceway have been a pleasure to work with. Noel was the catalyst to get Jim interested in speedway again and I think within a race or two Jim was a huge fan again! Thanks to Romie Castro and Eddie for help in promoting the race locally and at the track. Thanks to the AMA and our committee who have taught me a lot and whom without I could no conceive of staging a race like this. Biggest credit on the staff goes to Chris Ackerman who worked tirelessly over the last 9 months on this project and gave a great performance of keeping the crowd thrilled all night long.

Finally thanks to every rider who showed up and put on a display that has left the fans wanting more. The rest of us can only set the stage but you are the real show. To say you delivered would be the biggest understatement I have ever made.

If I missed you out, I apologize! The good news is Ventura is already committed to staging the same event next year and possibly we may add another race somewhere for good measure.

See you all at the PAS for Long Track Nationals!

Ventura Grand Marshall

We are honored to have speedway legend Sonny Nutter for our Grand Marshall at Saturday's 2013 AMA Series Round 1 at Ventura. Sonny was the California State Speedway Champion in 1968 and 1969.

Considered the most popular rider in his day, he headed up the Ventura speedway team when team speedway competition was held in the 1970's. The Santa Monica resident also rode flat track at Ascot Park.

Sonny is a member of the Hall of Fame of the Trailblazers motorcycle club of Southern California. Currently he is an avid collector and restorer of Triumph motorcycles.

Thanks to Paul Flanders for the bio info.

Last few days before Ventura and we are working on the final details for what we hope is a great event!

I wanted to remind everyone that Ventura Raceway is the promoter of this event and that pits access for media, photographers, etc is at their discretion.

If you have previously been given passes for my own promoted events it does not mean you can automatically get access on Saturday without checking ahead. Given that there is a lot of interest in this race and a lot of local media will be in attendance passes will be limited.

Thanks to everyone and I will see you all at the Commotion!

Ventura Commotion!

Billy Hamill, myself and Danny Hull had a very productive day today with Jim Naylor and his crew at Ventura Raceway as we conducted a full track inspection and race meeting prep late this morning in readiness for AMA Speedway Series Round 1 on June 29th.

We were very enthused by the attitude and approach of the promotion. They are spending a lot on this event to ensure that the track is set up 100% like a real European track with everything possible done safety wise. Several truck loads of DG will be put onto the track, even more so than was down in 2008 when there were several thrilling Speedway races at a Gene Romeo Flat Track show.

We certainly left the stadium with a buzz that Ventura Raceway are on the same page as us and are serious about putting on a high quality show. This will be another quantum leap for the growth of American Speedway both domestically and internationally.

For racers we have arranged a 2 hour practice session on the afternoon of the show. Pit gate will open at noon with practice from 2:30-4:30. All divisions are welcome to practice. Between 5:30pm and 6:15 there will be qualifying heats for the last two spots on the BIG show as well as Heats for Support, Vintage and 250 Juniors. At 7pm the Main show begins with a 23 race full GP format program. Main Events for Support, Vintage and 250 will be held between the rounds but the bulk of the action will be the AMA Series races. For those fans who want to make a day of it, spectator gates will open at 2pm. The 14 series seeds should be listed tomorrow but those not on the list are invited to qualify and place top 14 on the night and this bumping a seed to qualifiers for Round 2! Even the Division 1 riders who do not make the last 16 will get 3 rides + practice on the day!

Note we will not be running a 150cc Mini Class now as we will not be able to operate a small infield track as planned.

And track operations manager Noel Dawson wanted me to pass along the all Heat Sponsors will have a personally made plaque with theirs or their businesses name on it which they can present to the winner of their Heat, Semi or Main after the show is over. We have 9 heats sold as we speak with the latest heat sold to anonymous person who wishes to dedicate it in memory of #333 Nick Varner.

This event is a win for all of speedway and we hope to see you there!

SATURDAY 29TH JUNE -AMA SERIES ROUND 1

There will be an afternoon practice for all riders. Qualifying and Support Heats start at 5:30pm, Main show 7pm. Main show will be 16 riders in full GP style program! There will be one Main event or Consi for Support Divisions after each round.

14 riders will be seeded into the Main show. The 5:30 qualifying heats will decide the other 2 spots. Note the top 14 in points after round 1 go straight into Round 2 at Victorville so even if you have to make the show the hard way, you can earn your way into the Main show for the rest of the series. Top 8 in series are seeded for 2014 as per the GP's.

The AMA Committee met yesterday and we are in the next day or so confirming the 14 seeds. Already in the Main show and confirmed to ride are Billy Hamill, Billy Janniro, Josh Larsen, Gino Manzares, Bart Bast, Bryan Yarrow, Tommy Hedden, Tyson Burmeister, Eddie Castro, Aaron Fox.

The other Divisions have very limited numbers. Right now the plan is;

DIVISION 2 (12 riders)
VINTAGE (6 riders)
250 Junior
150 Mini (small infield track)

We may add D3 class pending sign ups in the above classes but please note the Main show is the AMA Series Round 1. Supporting Classes will get practice, heat and Main or Consi.

Entry fees are $30 to ride (per class), $25 mechanics. Top 14 have entry fee comped. AMA Membership or day Membership ($20) is required for all riders.

Riders in series will run their own race numbers, not bibs this year so you can give your own sponsors exposure. We just ask you put an AMA sticker on your bike and kevlars.

Heat Sponsorships are $100 each, semi's at $250, Main at $500. 6 heats have already been sold. Please help and buy a heat if you can - this event is laying down a marker and big track action for our future riders and international stars is much needed!

To sign up to ride or buy a heat please message me! Thanks for all the interest in this race, both the promoters and AMA Committee Members are working very hard to ensure a great Speedway race!

SIGN UPS ARE OPEN!!

Ventura and AMA Series

In just 29 days the 2013 AMA Series kicks off in style with the first all Speedway race at Ventura in 13 years. A lot has been done in preparation for this race and the next four weeks will see the final touches.

The track will have several truck loads of DG and will be to the standards of the 1999/2000 races as well as the American finals of the past.

The AMA Committee will be meeting early next week to decide on the 14 permanent series riders and hopefully we can announce the field by mid next week. Rider interest has been excellent and those who do not make the cut of 14 will still get chance to partake in the race and series as the final two spots will be raced off for at 5:30 on the 29th.

There will be a limited number of Support races- for Support, Vintage Class and Juniors. Sign Ups will be on early next week!

Billy Hamill will hold an Academy on the morning of the event if there is enough local interest.

These are AMA Events so riders will either need an AMA membership or a new AMA day pass ($20). With 3 big AMA events in SoCal this year memberships are the best deal.

Heat Sponsorships will be on offer from early next week.

The full GP format with the deep rider line up that will be announced will be a mouth watering prospect. And most importantly, the chance for many to race on a big track without having to spend thousands to go to Europe is a very big deal when it comes to our future World Cup Squad and maybe a future GP star.

Please do your best to support this event - as a rider, fan, sponsor or worker. Spread the word and help us make it successful - it truly is important to the bigger picture of American Speedway! LET'S CAUSE A COMMOTION BY THE OCEAN!

The AMA National Series will be a 3 round competition in 2013 and for the first time (in a long time) each round will be at a different track.

The schedule is

June 29 - Ventura
September 22 - Sunday- Victorville (date change)
September 27 - Friday - Fast Fridays, Auburn

The Series will use the exact same race format as the Grand Prix Series - 16 riders per event, 5 rounds, each rider meets each rider once only in heats and then semi finals and final. The points system will also replicate that used in the SGP.

The Series will have 14 permanent riders and each round will feature 2 wild cards. The staging promoter can either nominate the wild cards or do qualifying races ahead of the main show. The Ventura and Victorville rounds will feature qualifying heats to determine wild card spots.

The top 8 in last years Championship will receive automatic series invites (Billy Hamill, Charlie Venegas, Bryan Yarrow, Gino Manzares, Bart Bast, Billy Janniro, Tommy Hedden and Aaron Fox).

The other 6 permanent spots will be chosen based on applications received by the AMA Committee. The criteria in choosing the additional spots will be based off of various factors such as 2012 points, placing in major events last season, past AMA National results, etc. 4 series reserves, to be called upon in place of rider injuries, will be allocated in order of preference.

Top 8 in 2013 series, as per SGP, automatically are granted entry for 2014. Qualifying for other 2014 spots will be announced in due course.

Letters of Intent will be available in next day or so and must be filled in and returned by May 15th to register for the series.

The Series and its expansion and replication of the GP format will be an excellent addition to an already exciting 2013 race calendar!

Also remember the Long Track National at Perris Auto Speedway is on July 27th!
