'This is my brother Randy at Costa Mesa in 1990, where he would win the Junior National Championship later that year.' Ryan Evans It is with the deepest sadness and sincerest regret that I must inform the speedway community that my brother, Randy Evans, has passed away at 32 years old. Randy suffered severe head injuries in a crash at Speedway USA in Victorville on August 26, 1995. Despite long odds of merely surviving the crash, he showed a true racer’s heart and determination through countless hours of physical and cognitive therapy and rehabilitation to live more than a decade after the crash. Randy’s 12-year fight ended late Wednesday night. Randy would occasionally experience seizures and it was during one of those seizures that he went into cardiac arrest early Wednesday morning. After 18 hours God finally decided that Randy had fought long enough and relieved Randy of his pain so he could join Him in heaven. Through it all, my mom was the constant in Randy’s life and endured those long days with him. I don’t know of anyone who has a stronger will than my own mother. Randy began attending speedway races before his first birthday and he fulfilled one of his biggest dreams when he won the 1990 Junior National Championship, which was the last Junior National to be held at Costa Mesa. Randy didn’t race the first three seasons after winning the title, but when he returned to racing in 1994 he rapidly made it into First Division. In 1995, Randy won several First Division Main Events and was one of America’s brightest prospects when his career was cut short. Randy was just 20 years old when his speedway career ended so it is fitting that his legacy in American speedway will live on with the Randy Evans Perpetual Trophy that is presented to the Under 21 National Champion each year. I speak on behalf of my family in thanking everyone in our beloved sport of speedway for their love, support, encouragement, and compassion over these past 12 years. No other family can possibly understand how caring the speedway community can be more than my own. My family and I are eternally grateful to each and every person who has provided help. We will miss Randy tremendously, but are thankful for his time on Earth and we know that he is watching each and every speedway race and riding on the shoulders of each and every speedway racer. Funeral arrangements have yet to be planned, but I will make them public as soon as they are finalized.
