AMA Speedway National Championship Series Round 3 - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 12, 2017

Broc Nicol added a big trophy to his case by winning Round Three of the AMA Speedway National Championship Series at Industry Racing.

“Mad” Max Ruml was the only undefeated racer entering the Final and had first choice of starting position. He shocked a lot of people by picking gate four. Nicol, having only been defeated by Max Ruml in their heat, quickly took gate one. National Series points leader and defending National Champion Billy “The Kid” Janniro chose gate two and that left gate three to former Under 21 National Champion Gino Manzares.

When the tapes went up it was Nicol who launched into the lead. He hugged the inside line through turns one and two while Max Ruml tried to sweep around the outside. Nicol secured the lead on the back straight and through lap one while Max Ruml kept his outside attack but Janniro and Manzares were now underneath him so he had no choice than to be committed to the cushion. Nicol firmly held the lead while Max Ruml was now starting to drift backward and found himself at the back. Nicol led to the checkered flag and Janniro was second. Manzares lifted badly exiting the final corner and crossed the finish line third just before losing control of his machine. Max Ruml was fourth and probably pondering his gate choice.

Janniro kicked off the evening with a victory over Dillon Ruml. Nicol defeated Gage Geist in event two. Max Ruml beat Tommy Hedden in event three. Manzares ended round one with a victory ahead of Aaron Fox.

Nicol beat Janniro to open round two. Manzares scored his second victory by beating Hedden. Dillon Ruml defeated Geist in the next heat. Max Ruml beat Fox to end the second round.

The third round started with Janniro beating Fox for his second win. Max Ruml handed Nicol what turned out to be his only defeat of the evening in event 10. Dillon Ruml scored his second straight win by beating Manzares. Austin Novratil finished round three by beating Russell Green.

Round four began with Max Ruml sweeping past Manzares in the final corner to just win at the finish line. Novratil defeated Daniel Faria for his second win in a row. Nicol got back on the winning track by using the outside to beat Dillon Ruml in event 15. Legendary former National Champion Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz, who turned 61 just two days prior, turned in a vintage performance and brought the crowd to its feet with a victory to finish the fourth round.

Entering the final round, Max Ruml was on top of the standing with a perfect 12 points; Nicol was next with 11; Dillon Ruml and Manzares had 10 points each; Janniro sat at nine; Novratil had eight points; Fox was next with seven; and Green had six.

Janniro started the final round with a win over Hedden. Fox beat Schwartz in event 18 to get himself into the semis. Max Ruml held off Novratil to remain perfect. Nicol used the outside to pass and defeat Manzares in the final heat.

Max Ruml stormed to his sixth straight in in the first semi. Manzares finished second to also make it to the Final. Nicol was victorious in the second semi with Janniro getting second to join him in the Final.

The Final Round of the Series will be held at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn on September 16. Janniro holds a four point lead over Max Ruml, 52 to 48, with Nicol in third with 44 points, Manzares is fourth with 39 points, and Dillon Ruml and the injured Luke Becker are tied with 32.
