MK Products Harley Night - Costa Mesa, CA, USA - August 17

"Flyin" Mike Faria turned in a vintage performance and ended an evening of exciting racing by capturing the Scratch Main Event in front of a large crowd on MK Products Harley Night at the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway.

National Champion Billy "The Bullet" Hamill entered the main event undefeated at the track this season and was lined up in gate one. Faria was right next to him in gate two. Gino Manzares was in gate three. Aaron Fox was in gate four and newly-crowned Under 21 National Champion Max Ruml was in gate five.

Fox made the best start and was surging ahead in turn two when things got wild behind him. Manzares and Hamill touched which sent Manzares down and the former World Champion toward the wall on his back wheel. Hamill got the bike down but still hit the wall and collected Ruml in the process. Both riders were unhurt but would have to use spare machines for the restart.

Faria beat everyone to turn one on the restart but had Hamill breathing down his neck. Hamill wasn't going to let his unbeaten streak evaporate without a fight and he kept the heat on the leader. Faria was undeterred and not intimidated. He spun the four laps as if he were by himself and was first to the checkered flag. Hamill was second, Manzares finished third, Fox was fourth, and Ruml finished fifth. Faria basked in the glory of his win and was given the bumps on the front straight in front of a very appreciative crowd.

The evening began with Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster on the hit television show "The Munsters" giving the riders the official command to start their engines.

Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell opened the heats with a win over Ruml. Hamill beat "Battling" Buck Blair in the second heat. Faria beat Fox in event three. Manzares ended the first round by defeating Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz.

Hamill held off Manzares to start the second round with a win. Ruml beat Russell Green in the next heat. Faria beat Steve Russell for his second straight win. Fox beat Schwartz to finish round two.

McConnell kept Fox at bay to begin round three with his second win. Manzares beat Blair for his second win of the night. Ruml defeated Faria for his second straight win. Hamill completed the heats by beating Schwartz to remain undefeated.

Faria and Manzares finished one-two in the first semi and transferred to the main. Hamill cruised to victory in the second semi with Ruml following him in to the main event.

Fox was victorious in the Last Chance to book the final place in the main. Russell finished second, Blair was third, and Schwartz finished fourth.

Mike Wiley put together four smooth laps and won the Support Main Event. Kyle Hicks finished second, Harold Hartke was third, Rohn Zellner finished fourth, and Eloy Medellin was fifth.

National Champions Joe Jones and Johnny Glover powered their way to the victory in the Sidecar Main Event. Bryan Motis and Josh Bennett finished second, Casey Driggers and Riley Driggers were third, and Dual Anderson and Ethan Smith finished fourth.

The next event at Costa Mesa Speedway is John Matherson and Mission Motorsports Night and will have all divisions of Speedway, Juniors, Pee Wee's, and Sidecars.
