Sidecars Night
July 1, 2005 - Fast Fridays, Auburn
By Gary Roberts

Just one week after what looked like it might be the start of summer weather and the Northern California weather is up in triple digits. Preparing a race track under such conditions can best be described as a challenge. But Fast Fridays put together a great track, enabling some extremely fast racing. With no Costa Mesa racing this week, a number of Southern California riders made the trip up north for 2 nights of racing. (Auburn Friday, Carson City Saturday). Several commented to me that they expected more moderate weather.

Bryan Yarrow, who was a victim of a first race crash last week was hobbling round the pits with a bruised up ankle, not racing, but at least on 2 legs. America's other World under 21 semi finalist took his turn to get hurt this week with a bizarre incident which involved hitting the wall, going over the handlebars, somersaulting and landing back on 2 wheels, seated on the bike. Along with bending yet another motorcycle, Chris made a mess of his right foot, so is a question mark for tomorrow night's Carson City event.

The same four finalists as last week put on the fastest race of the night with a close gate, Charlie Venegas looking the best on the outside. But Bobby Hedden seemed to find the necessary drive to lead from turn 2 and held the lead.

what a great night for Billy Hiles! He gated well and held off a very determined TJ Fowler for 4 laps.

Danny Easley looked all set to win this one. The track was fast, so overtaking was not easy. The back yard riders made little progress to catch the front runners and Danny Easley seemed to have a convincing lead. But coming out of turn 4 on the final lap Billy found the drive to get past Danny at the gate.
