2016 Mid-America Speedway News

News Update
Our last event saw 152 entries, and while we were delayed at the start, the event was completed by 11:00. Thank you to everybody that attended and we hope that you can make the remaining events. Please note that Chomp'z Truck will be serving food for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Next on the schedule is our 10/22 event which is a regular points event. Jackson Oil & Solvents will be the title sponsor for the evening. Remember Jackson Oil for all of your fuel and oil needs, and their 24 hour race fuel station is very convenient for those last minute fuel purchases.

The season finale will be our always popular 7th Annual Halloween Race sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Bloomington. The folks at Harley-Davidson of Bloomington have been a sponsor of Mid-America since our very first event in 2008. Please keep them in mind when purchasing your next Harley-Davidson. The Open Motorcycle Class will be a 20 lap affair, paying $500 to win.

For the remainder of the season, riders meetings will be at 4:30, and practice will start at 5:00. Heats are scheduled to start at 7:00, but if practice is completed early, and the track is ready for racing, we may start at 6:30 especially in October when it tends to cool off when the sun sets.

2017 Season
AMA Pro-Racing released their schedule a few weeks ago, and we are waiting for Octane Sports Management to release their Steel Shoe National Schedule. We expect to see one or two changes to the AMA Schedule, and are hoping that Octane has an event near central Indiana. We have a tentative 2017 schedule planned out and we expect the schedule to remain pretty similar to the 2016 season, but we want to see the final drafts of both of the professional racing series prior to releasing anything.

Directions to Mid-America
Mid-America Speedway is located at the southeast corner of Indianapolis at the Marion County Fairgrounds. From 465, take exit 49 and go to the first light and turn left, continue approximately 3/4 of a mile, and go over the overpass. Bear to the left of the base of the overpass, and the entrance to Mid-America is 1/4 mile on the left.

News Update
Mid-America received over three inches of rain between midnight Friday, and 3:00pm on Saturday. While it certainly looked bleak for getting the event in, the Mid-America crew dug in, and got the track in shape and ready for racing. While the track was not as smooth as usual, there was plenty of grip which lead to some great multi-line racing. Thank you to everyone that believed in our crew.

The next event on the schedule is Vintage Heavy Night on September 24th. The winning rider in the class will receive a $100 bonus per cylinder for their efforts. This means that if someone can win on a twin, they will receive a $200 bonus.

Next on the schedule is on October 8th, where we are paying $500 to win the 250 Money Class. For the remainder of the season, riders meetings will be at 4:30, and practice will start at 5:00. Remaining events on the 2016 Schedule
October 22nd is a regular points night, and our 7th annual Halloween race will be on October 29th with $500 going to the winner of the Open Class.

2016 Mid-America Speedway News

We were able to get last Friday's AMA Vintage Event in, however to say that we were rained off on Saturday would be an understatement. The rain set in around 10:00am Saturday, and never moved out until late Tuesday. The next event at Mid-America is a regular points night on August 20th, followed by our Vet 30+ Night on August 27.

Pre-Entry
Pre-Entry is available for all of the remaining 2016 events. Click Here to be taken to the pre-entry link. Remember that no payment is collected until you get to the track.

What's new for 2016?
Our new on-line and mobile friendly scoring program was tested during the May 7th event, and while there were a few bugs, it worked remarkably well. We did have an issue getting the results to go out via Twitter, but that has since been corrected. Top three results from each race will go out on our Twitter feed, so be sure to follow us at @MidAmSpeedway. For those of you without smart phones, rest assured that we will still have the printed forms that we have always posted.

The new 3500 gallon water truck is not quite finished, but the drag truck has been outfitted with a 350 gallon water tank which will be used when the track needs a light mist. Both trucks will reduce the amount of time spent watering and will allow us to run our events even more efficient than we have in the past.

The option to purchase reserved parking spots was a huge hit, and there are still a few spots left. Vans and trucks with small trailers will be parked with their front bumpers facing the fence that runs between the pit entrance and the hill (rear of vehicle would be facing turn 3 and 4 wall. Longer vehicles would park on the other side of the fence facing the vans and trucks with small trailers. Cost is $100 for the season and includes a sign with your name and number in your choice of red, green, black or blue identifying your reserved spot. Please contact us to reserve your spot today.

2016 Schedule
After the August 27, event, we return on September 10th for a regular points night followed by followed by Vintage Heavy Night on September 24th. October 8th will pay $500 to win the 250 money class. October 22nd is a regular points night, and our 7th annual Halloween race will be on October 29th with $500 going to the winner of the Open Class. Our awards banquet will be on 11/12 at the Sunshine Bowling Center in Clermont, IN. There will also be a free practice starting at 11:00am on the 12th so riders can ride one more time before the weather turns cold.

2016 Mid-America Speedway News

August 12th and 13th are rounds 11 and 12 of the AMA National Vintage Dirt Track Series. Both nights are AMA Vintage classes only.

There will be complimentary barbecue in the pits for riders and their crew on the evening of August 12.

The August 13th event will feature the same vintage classes from the night before, however we will be adding Speedway bikes which is Round 2 of the US vs. Canada Border Wars sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Bloomington.

Round one was held in Welland, ON, on July 9th with 15 Speedway riders, including several riders with British League experience in attendance. Riders came from Quebec, Ontario, New York, Indiana, and Scotland.

We are expecting nearly all of the 15 riders from round one to show and some additional riders from New York, Ohio and Indiana to make appearances.

Total purse is currently $2600, with $800 going to the winner.

The Welland track definitely favors the local riders, but we feel that Mid-America makes for a more neutral track.

Riders interested in attending should contact us at (317) 871-4392 for more details and to get a spot on the program.

Mid America News

2016 will mark the 9th season of racing at Mid America Speedway. We have 15 events scheduled for 2016. Obviously Mother Nature controls the actual number of events run as we had 14 races on the schedule in 2015, and we were only able to run nine.

We are often asked why we run so many races. The truth is that 15 races is a lot of races for the staff, but due to the structure of our lease agreement with the Marion County Fairgrounds we are charged for the facility whether we use it or not and it takes a minimum of twelve events to break even. The other concern is that if we only paid for the facility for a handful of events we know that kart and TQ midget promoters would come in and not take care of the facility in the same manner that we do. We have seen it happen in the past, and the track that was left behind was not suitable for motorcycles.

2016 Schedule
The season is scheduled to kick off on April 30th with our annual spring opener. We then take a little over a month off before our next event which we consider our true season opener on June 4th. Just like in years past, there will be a $100 bonus to the winning bike owner of the 80-200 class. June 18th is our 10th Annual Fair Race. Had we not promoted this event in 2007, flat track would not exist at the Marion County Fairgrounds. After the fair, we take almost a month off and return on July 16th where the winner of the 50+/Super Senior class will take home a $100 bonus. July 30th is a regular points night, and then we have a double header on Friday, August 12th and Saturday the 13th which is rounds 11 and 12 of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Series. Saturday, August 13th is also round 2 of the FIM sanctioned USA vs. Canada Speedway Series. (Round one will be in Welland, ON, on July 9th.) Next on the schedule is our August 20th event, followed by our Vet 30+ Night on August 27th. September 10th is the next date on the schedule followed by Vintage Heavy Night on September 17th, and a regular points nights on September 24th.

What is new for 2016?
Putting on races takes a lot of behind the scenes work that when done properly provide a positive experience for the fans, riders, and sponsors. The staff at Mid-America's motto is "to make the next event better than the last event". Right after the end of the 2015 season, we went to work on a new web based program that will allow riders to get lineups and results on their mobile phones and tablets. We feel that this will allow everyone to be kept better informed as to which race is on the track, who the riders are, and which events are coming up next in the race order. Basically, anyone using the link will have access to the same information that the scoring tower has. Note that results will still be manually entered, so there could be a short delay between the end of a race and the results being posted, but we expected this delay to be a few minutes at most.

We will also continue to post the printed lineups just like we have always done.

Ice Racing
Mid-America works closely with the promoters at Extreme International Ice Racing to grow the sport of flat track. They have three more events left on their schedule and asked us to spread the word.
January 23rd, Xfinity Arena, Everett, WA
February 13th, The Aud, Kitchener, ON
February 19th, David S. Palmer Arena, Danville, IL
The 450 flat track class pays $500 to win, $250 for second, and $100 for third. Pit bikes (air cooled machines up to 150cc) pay $100 to win, $50 for second, and $25 for third. There will also be a combined 65/85 class offered at each round. Their website is www.xiir.org. Call 317.871.4392 for more information.

Other Flat Track events in the Area
Danville, IL
The staff of Extreme International Ice racing is going to be putting on two indoor dirt events at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, IL on May 20th, and 21st. More details will be provided as the event gets closer, but class structure and payout will most likely mirror what you see at Mid-America.

Converse, IN
Mike Singleton and Travis are putting on a two day event at the Converse Fair Short Track on Saturday, June 11th and Sunday, June 12th.
